Here are the current top choices in the creatine category.

“Creatine is the undisputed champion of muscle building supplements. Everyone who lifts weights can benefit from the advantages of creatine supplementation. The tricky part is often simply knowing which one to get. Don’t worry, I’ve got your back.” – Russ

creatine monohydrate

1. Myprotein Creatine Monohydrate

If you lift weights, you should use creatine.

And seeing as you read my blog, I’m going to presume you lift weights.

Despite the fact that there are many more expensive formulas on the market today, the original form of creatine – monohydrate – remains king of the hill by a clear mile.

This is the product featured in my recent creatine video, and is the one most of my clients use all year round.

Nutrition breakdown per serving:

  • 5g creatine monohydrate

The Protein Works Creatine HCL

2. The Protein Works Creatine HCL

Creatine HCL is another useful addition to the creatine market.

Over the last decade, a raft of new creatine formulas have hit the market, including ethyl-esther, kre-alkalyn, nitrate and many more.

And while the majority are simply more expensive ways to perform the exact same task as basic creatine monohydrate, creatine HCL offers a unique twist in that it doesn’t require carbohydrates in order to be absorbed into the muscle cell.

This makes it the first creatine supplement which has effectively been built to cater for those on a low carbohydrate diet.

While the performance effects will match creatine monohydrate – not surpass them – the fact that you are able to save some of your daily carb intake to use later in the day will mean a big deal to some people.

Due to it’s increased solubility, serving sizes are also smaller than creatine monohydrate.

Nutrition breakdown per serving:

  • 2.5g creatine hydrochloride
